Gross to net salary in France: what you actually take home
French job offers and contracts state a gross salary. Here is how to estimate what reaches your account.
Updated on 13 October 2026
Rule of thumb
Private sector: net before tax ≈ gross × 0.78 for non-managers, gross × 0.75 for managers (cadres). Then income tax is withheld at source at the rate set by the tax office.
Example
€2,500 gross per month for a non-manager gives roughly €1,950 net before tax.
Why it varies
Your company health insurance (mutuelle), pension tiers above the social security ceiling, and tax-free overtime all move the result a little.
